Blogger and Adult Blogs

How true is it that Blogger will delete adult blogs? Is this a rumour or should we start thinking about moving to an alternative as has been discussed in a previous post? I will be seriously pissed off if blogger deletes my blog, even if I do have some back-ups in word, as I will lose the comments etc.

I like blogger a lot; I find it incredibly easy to use, something I don't experience with wordpress despite it's popularity. But should I make a back-up now by transferring my content to another platform? How easy is this? Can I just suck my blog from blogger to an alternative? Will this harm the blogger original?

And what about alternatives designed specifically for adult blogs such as sensualwriter and thumbblogger, are these any good?

All experiences, thoughts and opinions would be gratefully appreciated from this novice blogger, thanks!

The Biker and I have anticipating this for a while now and began using HTTrack Website Copier. This program saves everything from our blog, including comments.

We then burn the file onto a CD and also store the file on an external harddrive.

I backup our blog every week. The first time the program ran for a little over 30 minutes retrieving all posts and pictures.

I will be very angry if blogger deletes anything!

Every once in a while this rumor starts up. I can see google deleting adult blogs very selectively, not shot gunning every adult blog.
I have tried thumblogger, it is kind of blah. Tampering with the template can cause problems.

Where did this latest rumor come from? I have over 500 posts on my main blog alone- and almost never back anything up. Although it's been on that *to do* list along with a couple other million things.

Sensualwriter is wordpress hosted on thumblogger. If you don't like wordpress, well that's what sensualwriter is. We've just moved there and we're exceedingly happy with it.

As far as dragging it across, sensualwriter imported the whole thing, comments and all, with about 15 minutes work all up. Very easy wizard controlled import. Pure gold.

I don't know whether blogger will ever really delete nsfw stuff proactively... after all sex sells, they want the traffic for the ads and they are in it to make money after all. But it is technically against their terms and conditions. If some puritans got onto the idea of using the 'Flag' function in the header to target a blog en masse I don't think they'd have any choice but to shut you down.

I've justed commented on the earlier post about sensualwriter, too.

Cheers P and P

I've been considering doing something like this for some time now. Also, having your own hosting gives some freedom in terms of what sort of content you can put up. I find working with images in blogger to be a bit of a pain. I don't even try video.

I own ambientstorm.com but have yet to do anything with it. I do web design and graphics and writing for a living and it's sort of the whole cobbler's children have no shoes thing.

But I did make sure my ENTIRE 2.5 years were backed up tonight when I got home, along with all images moved.

I intend to at some point host it myself, but will check into some of the other hosting sites in the meantime.

I have a Mac laptop at home and don't believe httrack.com works with Mac. :-( Johnny has my pc laptop which no doubt I will get back at some point, but until then...

Teacher, can you email me the setting you used to set this up? I have a lot of outbound links and HTTrack is trying to grab them all. Not good.

I've seen this rumor for the past few years. I have seen where a blog got flagged enough that only the owner can see it.

DBD, If you don't have a backup at all, you are fucked. At the bare minimum, you should go into Blogger Settings and in the "Email" section, put an email address that you can send your posts to. For me that is the equivalent of an offsite backup.

Otherwise your only alternative may be to try and pull your posts off the Internet Archive.

Yeah, I know... A risk you take sometimes. If they yank my blog, I'll probably disappear. Who knows. With SBC, I know there are at least 2 posts that talk about backups though.

I know I am not a proper adult blogger - just occasionally - but I have still been told my blog if "offensive" - what is the best back up system?

Very interested thread here folks. I'm glad I came across it. I was warned that Blogger may delete my adult site. So far, so good. LOL. I'm putting up some pretty "risque'" stuff too. If ya catch my drift. I may just stick it out and make sure everything is backed and then transfer over to my own host in a few weeks when I get paid.

As far as Thumblogger goes? I had nothing but problems with it myself. Sensualwriter seems too limited to me. I may want to look into it more though. Blogger I really like. I agree that it's easy to work with. Videos do seem to be a bit of a problem and editing the templates is a pain. It'll do for now though I suppose.

Thanks for the info! Off to check out joyscape.com.

Take care all

Yeah see I'm surprised, I've never been contacted and do my best on my site to warn of it's content, but I can't believe anyone could call my content non-explicit! I do text, images and video (tho videos hosted elsehwhere) yet haven't had a problem. However, I do feel it's just a matter of time...
