Switching to Beta (New) Blogger
I've Finally been invited to switch to Beta.
I was hoping to do this Blog by Blog, but unfortunately that doesn't seem to be possible.
If it was just my own Blog, I'd probably set a few hours aside and make the Switch, but with SBC, I want to make sure that nothing's left to chance.
For me and anyone else who hasn't made the change yet, does anyone have any advice?
Anything they did beforehand?
Anything that went wrong?
Anything they got right?
Anything they got wrong?
Anything about Templates?
I'll obviously take backups of everything I can, I assume the transition is a no brainer, but just need a little reassurance.
Thanks

I made the switch and didn't have any problems. I expected some because I have a 3 column template not issued by blogger.
You will have to log on and comment using an email address. If you try to comment on a non-beta blog, you have to use "sign on as different user" and type in your email and password. then make your comment.
When you make the change, you will just see your old template. If you want the goodies of the beta(widgets, ease of use), you have to select a new template design,(like a newbie) then you can redesign it to your liking.. You have to be extremely careful when making any changes to the xml code. Before you change any code, you have to click a box that says "expand code" so you can see it all when changing the code. You also have to do this when backing it up. You expand, high light all of the expanded code then save it .
If you have 3 blogs, all of them will be under one user. so you have to go to each one, and change the settings to state what blog you want to use for comments.
I finally made the switch and it wasn't bad. It took about an hour when the blog was down; I'd advise doing it in the evening when you won't panic if it's down for a while.
Back up a copy of your template first, if you haven't already.
I have not switched to their "new" version of handling templates. I like the old way just fine. I'd advise against using their new system, if you are happy with the old way.
Best of luck.
Take a look at this site for some info about shared blogs.

Some of the problems that I've heard about involve people that have both beta blogs and non beta blogs.
There are issues about logging in and commenting on beta blogs when you have both.
Sooner or later they will force everyone to switch though...
I'm about to switch Devil and all the blogs there. I can let you know. In the next day or two.
Could Jen and I get an invite to join?
Thanks,
Ken
