Banner Creation
I need to create some new Banners, and maybe a few icons.
I need a main banner for my Blog
A smaller Banner for lists (e.g. Liclist and Cunning Linquists
I'd also like to create a few icons.
I'm working on a Mac and have tried the Gimp, but it seems overly complicated for what I need.
I'm willing to work with anything that's free or something that's low cost.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

unfortunately i'm not very informed about mac software anymore, otherwise i'd give you some suggestions...
i just made a new banner for our blog (here) and helped out another couple by making a banner for them for their blog (here). I used Photoshop for them, which is probably more expensive than you want.
If I can help you out, though, I'd be happy to. I like messing around with this kind of stuff. Just send me your files.
Check out www.cooltext.com. It has an assortment of different fonts and banners. Simple, but free. You can then edit them.
Photoshop elements isn't that much though.
elements is about $92 from CDW.com
