BREAK!
You know the time, you've written a post, but you think it may be too long.
Now of course if there's a natural break in the middle, you can split it, but what other things make you split a post, how many words is too many? Maybe you don't even think about it.

Most of my posts are short. The exception is the erotic stories, so I don't really think about it. But I know that I rarely read blogs that usually have long posts. No time.
How do you split a post?
I seem to always find a natural break in each story at less than 1000 words -- usually somewhere between 400-600. Like devil, I don't have the patience to read long posts. Reading on the screen is a very different experience than the printed page. Also, this fits my writing style. Since I haven't always plotted out the stories (except the few that are from real life, and I won't tell you which ones they are!) I take them one post at a time and see how they develop.
Ken/Jen - what I assume this refers to is taking one story or subject and creating 2 or more posts, part 1, part 2 etc.
I often split posts with links between them-- "to read part 1, click here" (with the "click here" a link).
